(KRON) – A San Francisco resident shoplifting tools from a home improvement store climbed a fence to evade police, according to authorities.
Colma Police Department officers responded to a Home Depot on Colma Boulevard for the report of a male suspect stealing tools at around 7:51 p.m. on Aug. 5.
Arriving officers attempted to detain the suspect once he left the store; however, he refused and began to run, which prompted a foot pursuit.
The suspect, later identified as Richard Downing, began to climb a fence in an attempt to jump over. Police said officers grabbed him, causing the suspect to “fall to the ground.” According to Colma PD, Downing was still fighting officers after the fall, but police were able to handcuff him.
Two officers, per police, were mildly injured in the scuffle.
