The Miami Dolphins have lost running back Alexander Mattison for the 2025 NFL season following a neck injury that will require surgery.
Mattison suffered the injury during a 21-yard pass play in the Dolphins’ preseason outing against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. He went down after a tackle, and it was immediately apparent that he was hurt.
He was taken to a nearby Chicago hospital, where scans determined he would need surgery.
The 27-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins earlier in the offseason, having suited up for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, making 14 appearances, half of which were starts.
Before that, he was on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster, spending five years with the team and rushing for over 2,700 yards and 15 touchdowns.
