Six people including four kids were killed in a house blaze in suburban Maryland early Sunday that was so fierce even firefighters could not get into the home, officials said.

Dramatic photos show the house engulfed in flames and fire crews later surrounding its smoldering ruins.

“Deputies attempted to enter the home but could not due to heavy smoke and flames,” the Office of the State Fire Marshal said in a statement late Sunday.

Two survivors were able to escape the home in Waldorf, Charles County, about 23 miles south of Washington, DC, authorities said. 3

A ninth person linked to the house was not at home and returned after the fire broke out at around 8:40 a.m., according to the statement.
