Bicyclist struck, killed in Pa. was not wearing helmet, coroner says

MILTON — A Milton man was killed Saturday night when his bicycle was struck by a car in western Montour County east of Milton.

Nathaniel Martin, 18, of Milton, was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force head injuries, Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn said.

Martin was riding west on Route 254 when he entered the travel lane and was struck by a car driven by Susan Garthwaite of Watsontown about 8:40 p.m., he said

Martin was not wearing a helmet, and his bicycle was not equipped with lights or reflectors, the coroner said.

His brother, Neil Martin, who was riding with him, was not struck, Lynn said. Garthwaite was not injured, he said.

State police have not provided any information on the accident.
