Capcom’s Resident Evil game series has been one of the biggest franchises since its debut in 1998. Across dozens of games, the unfolding saga of the Umbrella Corporation’s continued efforts to, I guess, turn people into zombies and mold creatures continues to terrify and delight. Fans have grown to love characters like Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield (though not Ethan Winters). But if you’re hoping to see any of them lead a new live-action movie, don’t look to Weapons ‘ Zach Cregger. The writer-director of the upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot says his film will be “Outside” the original games.
