The anticipated fall opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge could be pushed back until early next year due to potential delays with the U.S. Customs Port of Entry as well as the multiple links to the bridge in southwest Detroit, according to an analysis of the project by the credit agency S&P Global Ratings.

However, Heather Grondin, chief Relations Officer of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, the Canadian agency responsible for the bridge project, pushed back on the S&P report, pointing out the analysis done in late April is “not a direct measure of BNA’s ability to deliver the project.” BNA refers to Bridging North America, the private-public group constructing the bridge and its ancillary work.
