Ontario's highest court has confirmed that Ukraine International Airlines must fully compensate the families of victims from the downing of Flight PS752. The incident occurred on January 8, 2020, when the aircraft was struck by two Iranian missiles shortly after departing from Tehran, resulting in the deaths of all 176 individuals on board.

Among the passengers were 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents, with many others having ties to Canada. An earlier ruling by an Ontario court determined that the airline was negligent for not conducting an adequate risk assessment for the flight. This negligence meant that the airline could not limit the compensation owed to the victims' families.

The Court of Appeal for Ontario dismissed the airline's appeal in a decision announced recently. Joe Fiorante, a lawyer representing some of the affected families, described the ruling as "an important result" for those who lost loved ones in the tragedy. He stated, "The ruling of the Court of Appeal brings a small measure of justice for the families."

This ruling allows families to pursue compensation from Ukraine International Airlines or Iran as part of their efforts to seek justice for the victims of Flight PS752.
