The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) gives out one-off payments of up to £812 to benefits claimants to help with unexpected costs. These can be things like household items or travel expenses - but any money borrowed has to be repaid to the DWP.

People claimants certain benefits can apply for one of the budgeting loan payments if you’ve been on certain benefits for six months.

You only have to pay back the amount you borrow, and repayments are taken automatically from your benefits.

It comes after the Government introduced the Fair Repayment Rate in April so that the DWP will no longer be allowed to take up to 25% from someone’s Universal Credit standard allowance payme
