The Amelia Earhart statue stolen from Harbour Grace, N.L., earlier this year has been recovered.

Harbour Grace RCMP said the statue, reported stolen in April, was located on Aug. 8 after a public tip led officers to a wooded area near Heart’s Content. Officers travelled to the site and found the statue cut into several pieces. All parts were accounted for and taken back to Harbour Grace.

The statue, a well-known feature at Spirit of Harbour Grace Municipal Park, commemorates Earhart’s historic 1932 solo transatlantic flight that began in the town. Mayor Don Coombs said the town is relieved to have it back and intends to restore it to its original location once repairs are complete.
