The young man arrested by immigration enforcement officers at Richmond’s Southwood Apartments in late July was deported back to his home country of Honduras, according to community organizers with New Virginia Majority who held a rally outside City Hall on Monday.
His name no longer appears in an online look-up tool sponsored by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
Ricardo Martinez-Cantarero, 21, entered the country at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. He and his family said they were never called back for a hearing to process the family’s case before an immigration judge.
Public court records show two dropped assault charges associated with his name. The charges were dropped in a mix-up that his mother said was associated with a twin sibling, who was also deported. WTVR-TV r
