• The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Richmond Raceway for the first time since its spring race was replaced by a road-course race in Mexico City. The Cook Out 400 is the third straight NASCAR race kicking off at 7:30 p.m. in Richmond following up the Whelen Modified Tour Virginia is for Lovers 150 on Thursday and the Craftsman Truck Series eero 250 on Friday.

• Richmond is one of two Cup races remaining including Daytona on Aug. 23. The playoffs start on Aug. 31 at Darlington. With 13 drivers holding automatic bids to the postseason due to a win on the season, there are three spots up for grabs. A win at Richmond would secure a playoff spot for a full-time driver without a win.
