Edinburgh police and paramedics swarmed a city centre street on Monday evening amid an 'emergency incident'.

Around 9.30pm on August 11, officers raced to Nicolson Street and were seen blocking the busy road after a cyclist was 'struck by a car'.

Buses were diverted while emergency services handled the scene. One concerned passer-by claims "a man was on his bike in the middle of the road" and a bike was beside him.

Bus services for routes 2, 3, 30 and 31 were among those diverted. No casualties have been confirmed at this point.

One 49-year-old passer-by said: "There was a man on his back in the middle of the road and a bike near him.

"Someone said he'd been hit by a car. It looked pretty bad and I just hope he's ok.
