ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - The city of Elkhart has broken ground on its first new fire station in two decades.

City officials and members of the fire department attended a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday afternoon to celebrate the start of construction of a new fire station on the city’s northeast side.

The new fire station on Ada Drive is replacing the Fire Station 6 location. It seeks to improve the city’s firefighting capacity.

The nearly $9 million project will ensure high-level care and quick response times for a growing Elkhart community.
