A trial in the child abuse case against Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. will begin Nov. 10, less than a week after voters will decide whether to reelect him, a judge ruled Monday.
Meanwhile, a case against his wife, Atlantic City School Superintendent La’Quetta Small, will begin Dec. 1, Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury ordered. Both the mayor and his wife appeared for a pre-trial conference on Monday morning, following earlier hearings, to argue motions to dismiss the charges and challenge evidence against them.
Prosecutors allege that the couple abused their teenage daughter over the course of about a month, with instances reportedly captured on audio and video by the girl’s boyfriend.
Both defendants were indicted on second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Small Sr.
