A teenage driver was allegedly using his cell phone when he ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, killing an 11-year-old girl on her way to school.
That's according to a criminal vehicular homicide charge filed Monday against 18-year-old Conner Michael Iversen in connection with the February crash that killed Lilyana Loycano, of Maple Plain.
"Lilyana should still be with her family," Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement. "This terrible incident serves as another reminder of the devastating impact dangerous driving has on our communities.”
Iversen was driving a pickup truck when he struck the Loycano family's SUV at four-way stop intersection, according to authorities.
Lilyana died two days later and five of her family members suffered injuries.
