A dog was killed in a fire inside an RV at a campground in Winona on Monday.

Winona Fire Department says it was called to the Prairie Island Campground at 11:40 a.m. after a report of a camper on fire.

The occupants of the camper were not inside at the time, but their pet dog perished in the blaze.

The damage was contained to the camper and didn't spread anywhere else. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Prairie Island Campground is operated by the City of Winona and is located along the shores of the Mississippi River.
