A Sunday evening fire at an apartment building on Powderhouse Boulevard in Somerville was likely sparked by an unattended candle, officials announced Monday afternoon.
The fire sent eight people, including four firefighters, to the hospital, WCVB reported. One of those eight was found unconscious inside the building, the station reported.
A message left with the fire department was not returned Monday. The apartment building where the fire broke out, 268A Powderhouse Blvd., is managed by the Somerville Housing Authority.
“We had a lot to contend with when we arrived,” Somerville Fire Chief Charles Breen told reporters, according to NBC 10 Boston . “There were multiple people hanging out windows. People screaming.”
“It was just a tremendous effort by all involved,” the chief said.
