BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - After seeing major growth in reading and math scores in Louisiana, the U.S. Secretary of Education is finding out what’s led to student success and how it could be shared across the nation.

The secretary, Linda McMahon, joined second graders at Jefferson Terrace Academy Monday to kick off her “Returning Education to the States” tour to see why they’re now some of the best early readers in the country.

“Why not start at the top with the state that’s been most successful?” asked McMahon. “They’re the only state in the country that saw increases in reading levels after Covid-19.”
