GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Santa Fe College leaders are preparing their students for jobs in the mechanical field.
College officials partnered with Alachua County and CareerSource North Central Florida to launch a new “Heavy Diesel Mechanic Training and Certification program.”
The program will train about 18 students a year to teach them skills like diesel engine repair and agricultural equipment maintenance.
“Those individuals that are trained as diesel mechanics will have a slew of opportunities available. In Florida, there is 28,000 vacancies for diesel mechanics. And right here in Alachua County, we are partnering with the Army Reserve, the new Army Reserve that is coming, and they need diesel mechanics,” said Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie II.
