The Sudbury Crown’s office is going to need a new Crown attorney.

Kara Vakiparta , who has been a lawyer for 22 years and the Crown attorney for the Sudbury District since December 2023, was one of seven new Ontario court judges announced by Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey.

Vakiparta is one of two new judges assigned to serve in Sudbury. The other is Sudbury lawyer Tanya Farkouh Martin .

Vakiparta, who has been assigned to Sudbury, has a degree in law from Queen’s University. She had been an assistant Crown attorney in the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, where she prosecuted all types of criminal matters, including murder, sexual assault and other high-profile cases.
