Easing traffic flow and ensuring pedestrians can cross at intersections safely was top of mind for city councillors at its Monday meeting.

Two separate resolutions were passed, one designed to increase traffic flow between downtown and uptown; the other to standardize and increase safety at pedestrian crosswalks.

Ward 2 councillors Lisa Vezeau-Allen and Luke Dufour want staff to review traffic flows between downtown and uptown before a planned 2027 reconstruction of Church Street takes place.

The councillors note that with new residential development at the bottom of Pim Street, and expected development at the former Sault Area Hospital Renal building, traffic may increase on Pim, Church and Queen Street.
