After reviewing the video of Tulane’s first scrimmage, coach Jon Sumrall echoed most of what he said Saturday night with one notable addition.
His new takeaway: the defense needs to play with better leverage.
“In a couple of those explosive plays in the run game, we should have turned it back in,” he said after Monday morning’s practice—the 10th of camp. “We gave up big plays because we maybe got a little too nosey at a spot or two. Leverage on defense is uncompromising. All of a sudden you’re sticking your nose where it shouldn’t be, and the next thing you know, it’s a touchdown.”
