MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -Southern Wisconsin is drying out after a deluge of rainfall over the weekend. Many areas reported flooding with the hardest hit areas being across southeastern Wisconsin and the Milwaukee region, where a 100-to-1000-year flood may have occurred. Rainfall totals are being analyzed for a potential state record!
The heavy rain event in southern Wisconsin over the weekend was the result of a slow-moving low-pressure system interacting with a stalled frontal boundary draped across the region. This boundary served as a focus for repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms, many of which moved along the same paths — a phenomenon known as training. Because these storms kept redeveloping and passing over the same locations, rainfall amounts quickly added up.
