RICHMOND, Calif. (KRON) -- A former United States Marine who was shot and killed by police officers in Richmond earlier this month was armed with two knives and advanced toward officers, police said Monday. The Richmond Police Department responded to the initial incident on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m.

A caller, police said Monday, advised police that his brother, Angel Montano was acting aggressively and armed with a knife. The caller told police that Montano was threatening to kill him and his mother.

Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and remained outside, awaiting the arrival of less-than-lethal weapons and resources. Dispatchers remained on the phone with the caller, updating the officers outside.
