HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaii Pacific University athlete is dazzling crowds despite an unexpected diagnosis at a young age.

Just like her stunts, Breanna Corral-Vargas is anything but ordinary.

The Northern California native shines on the HPU acrobatics and tumbling team.

With a bright smile and positive attitude, you wouldn’t know her towering athleticism relies on a tiny device.

“Growing up with diabetes has definitely taught me to grow up a little bit faster and mature a little bit faster, but it’s honestly been something that has made me so much stronger,” said Corral-Vargas.

Corral-Vargas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 8 years old.

After two years of giving herself insulin shots, she wanted something more functional.
