CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police are investigating after an inmate died at the Intake Service Center at the Adult Correctional Facility on Aug. 9, according to State of Rhode Island Department of Corrections Chief of Information and Public Relations officer J.R. Ventura.

According to Ventura, staff responded to a request for medical attention on the morning of Aug. 9 and began life-saving measures.

Cranston Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and “assumed lifesaving efforts which were unsuccessful,” Ventura said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death and Rhode Island State Police are investigating.
