TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County says they have $500,000 to distribute, all thanks to revenue they brought in from marijuana facilities.

A Michigan tax act imposes certain taxes and fees on adult-use marijuana. The state then distributes 15% of the revenue to counties based on their weed businesses.

Grand Traverse County plans to give out $25,000 to $100,000 to organizations.

The county would give these grants out to those who would help grow the county and focus on the needs of the community.

County commissioners have chosen to give this money through an application process to help make sure the money is going to the organizations.
