White House Cites ‘Significant Steps’ by Beijing, Postpones New Tariffs Until November

President Donald J. Trump today signed an executive order, extending the suspension of a new round of tariffs on goods from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) until November 10, 2025. This move comes as discussions between the two nations continue in an effort to address what the administration has called a lack of “trade reciprocity.”

The order, titled “Further Modifying Reciprocal Tariff Rates to Reflect Ongoing Discussions With the People’s Republic of China,” prolongs a 90-day suspension that was set to expire on August 12, 2025. The White House stated that the extension is a result of ongoing negotiations and “significant steps” taken by the PRC to remedy non-reciprocal trade arrangements.
