In the middle of a Lake Elsinore Storm batting meeting, outfielder Kasen Wells watched two players leave the room unannounced and wondered if he’d ever see them again.

“It’s been crazy seeing guys I’ve been with for the last seven months up and leave,” Wells said. “You never know if you’re going to see them again or not.”

Later that day, Wells found out that he was also moving on from the Storm and was being called up to High-A as one of many moves throughout the Padres system after a frantic trade deadline.

Wells was called up to the TinCaps (50-57, 19-23 second half) on Aug. 1. He wasn’t alone, as fellow Storm catcher Lamar King Jr. and shortstops Chase Valentine and Zach Evans were also brought up to help replenish a TinCaps roster that lost two of its best hitters, Leo De Vries and
