The residents of the Kansas City metro woke up to a gloomy day on Monday as rain clouds darkened the day. The gloom set the mood for the event of the day, the funeral services for Wyandotte County Sheriff’s deputy Elijah Ming. Ming was shot to death when he responded to a call in Kansas City, Kansas, on July 26.

More than 100 uniformed officers and hundreds of other civilians were on hand at Children’s Mercy Park where the funeral was held Monday morning. The casket for Deputy Ming was carried in by a pallbearer detail of Wyandotte County Sheriff’s officers in dark uniforms and all wearing dark gray cowboy hats. A corp of bagpipers and drummers provided the somber music for the solemn entry.
