CINCINNATI (WXIX) -The former Cincinnati Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman says he is gathering signatures in an attempt to be on the November ballot for city council.
In order for Smitherman or any city council or mayoral candidate to be on the ballot, they must collect at least 500 (no more than 1,000 signatures) from registered voters by Aug. 20, according to the Cincinnati Elections Commission.
“After we get the 500 signatures, it is game on,” Smitherman told FOX19 NOW’s Tricia Macke Monday.
Smitherman says that he began running because he says he is frustrated with what he claims is a “lack of leadership on city council.” This statement comes after videos went viral online of what the Cincinnati police chief calls a “violent attack” in downtown Cincinnati.
