NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans man received a unique legal opinion today from the Attorney General. It forbids the New Orleans Coroner from handling his remains when he dies.
Sidney now has terminal cancer, but last month, a court found McKenna's office negligent.
Attorney General Liz Murrill says that's why McKenna has a conflict, and when Sidney dies, she says a different parish coroner's office must handle his autopsy.
Justin, who struggled with mental illness, died in the French Quarter on Father’s Day, June 18, 2023, while Sidney was trying to find him and have him committed under an order of protective custody, which the coroner must issue. Sidney came into the coroner’s office to get a new order for Justin on June 20, not realizing his son was there, in the same complex, dead.
