Six people were rescued and one man drowned while swimming in an unprotected beach at the Jersey Shore on Monday, according to a spokesperson with the Seaside Heights Fire Department.
The fire department's ocean rescue team was called to the beach just before 7 p.m. for a report of several swimmers who were in distress, officials said.

A rescue swimmer on a jet ski was able to save six people from the water, according to officials.
CPR was performed on a seventh person who was taken out of the water but he was later pronounced dead, officials explained.
