PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Officials are urging people to be mindful of an algae bloom on the Ross Island Lagoon.

The Human Access Project took FOX 12 crews out to see the bloom Monday.

The Oregon Health Authority said while there is an algae bloom present at the lagoon, they are monitoring in the area, and toxin analysis has not been concerning for recreational purposes.

They say adding circulation to the lagoon would help to eliminate it, and expected rain later in the week could also help.

However, they say that individuals should avoid the water if they see an algae bloom, and to keep pets away - as it can be deadly to dogs.

The OHA says they monitor and tests the water biweekly.
