SAN FRANCISCO — The first day of the 2025 USGA U.S. Amateur is officially in the books for Carson Skarperud.

The UND men’s golfer and Grand Forks Red River graduate wrapped the first round of play at the Olympic Club in San Francisco shooting an 81, 11 over par. He's tied for 304th alongside Jake Ackerman and Todd White.

"The course is unbelievable and you look around at all the views and how well set up everything is," said Skarperud, whose dad Tim is his caddie for the event. "You turn the corner and there's the No. 1 player in the world. Seeing all these guys hit and knowing you're part of it, it's a pretty cool experience."
