A woman died Monday evening after she was pulled from the water by lifeguards finishing up their shift at Manhattan Beach Park .

The 55-year-old woman was unconscious and unresponsive when first responders arrived at the beach around 6:14 p.m. near Oriental Blvd., cops said. It was unclear how the woman ended up in the water.

EMS transported the woman to Coney Island Hospital where she died.

Lifeguards are on duty at the beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and swimming is prohibited when they are off duty.
