DERIDDER, La. (KPLC) - Two ordinances were approved today that could change the city of DeRidder forever.

The first item approved at tonight’s City Council meeting will change the use of recreational facilities at the West Park ball fields.

Damage to equipment and the area around the field sparked this change.

“Now they’re actually having to pay the $200 to use the ball fields, where they’re actually not able to refund. Then the insurance is going to be mandatory for the ball fields to be able to use it while they’re on the fields.” Janet Vincent, Project Coordinator for DeRidder, said.

Those using the facilities will also have to provide modes of insurance, so the city will no longer have to be fully responsible for repairing and fixing damaged property.
