Botetourt County Public Schools announced in early June that Janet Womack will be the division’s new superintendent. Jonathan Russ served as the superintendent of Botetourt County Public Schools from 2020 until he retired July 1, when Womack took over.

Womack has been the division’s assistant superintendent since 2015. She graduated from Botetourt County Public Schools herself, and that’s where she began her nearly 30-year career in education as a teacher. She also worked as an assistant principal for Roanoke County Public Schools, and as a principal for both school divisions.

Womack earned a doctorate of education in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech, a master's degree in education leadership from Radford University and a bachelor's in mathematics education
