A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend on Saturday turned himself in to police, officials from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Kasim McDonald, 42, of Newark is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree weapons offenses.

McDonald is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Shaneequah Williams, 45, in her apartment on Astor Street in Newark.

McDonald initially fled the scene but eventually surrendered to authorities at the Essex County jail Saturday evening, officials said.

An attorney for McDonald did not immediately return a request for comment.
