NEW YORK — Monday was a day that injured Yankees ace Gerrit Cole probably was counting down for months.

For the first time in more than four months — 158 days to be exact — Cole made his first tosses since his Tommy John surgery.

Cole had a poor second spring training start facing the Twins on March 6 in Tampa – he was roughed up for six runs over 2 2/3 innings – then experienced discomfort after the outing. That led to an MRI and then season-ending surgery on March 22.
