BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A child was rescued and a suspect is still at large after an hours long standoff with Birmingham Police in the Harris Homes public housing community in East Birmingham.
Birmingham Police say they got a domestic disturbance call around 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Brussels Circle.
A woman told police her boyfriend assaulted her then barricaded himself inside an apartment with her young son.
At one point, an officer was able to make contact with and rescue the child from the home.
“There’s always a sense of urgency when you have lives at stake, that’s why you see BPD command bus out here that’s why you see tactical SWAT officers and the gear that they’re in because the BPD takes each and every situation like this one serious,” said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
