SILVER BAY — A man died Monday after jumping from atop the High Falls on the Baptism River within Tettegouche State Park. The 54-year-old victim's name is being withheld by authorities pending notification of his family.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, an 11:34 a.m. 911 call notified authorities that a man seen jumping from atop the falls had not resurfaced. Just over two hours later, a remotely operated underwater vehicle from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources located the victim at the base of the falls.
The High Falls on the Baptism River are 63 feet high, according to the DNR, making the cascade the tallest to be completely located within Minnesota's borders. The High Falls of the Pigeon River, at Grand Portage State Park, are 120 feet high but shared
