DULUTH — It wasn’t obvious that Duluth Huskies pitcher Sean Waits was dominant in the team’s playoff game against La Crosse on Monday at Wade Stadium.
He rarely went above 85 mph on the radar gun, but he didn’t really need to do that. Waits allowed three hits over nine innings and struck out six in an 8-0 win that clinched a spot in the Northwoods League semifinal playoff series.
Manager Marcus Pointer said he thought it was the first complete-game shutout in his six seasons with the Huskies, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Waits “controlled the running game” when Loggers were on base, Pointer said, but that wasn’t the best thing he did — not even close.
