FAYETTEVILLE -- The Planning Commission approved a variance for the Ramay Junior High School development despite public opposition on Monday.

Prism Design Studio requested the variance to the development review process for the property at North Marks Mills Lane, the planned site for the school.

The variance will allow the developers to receive a grading permit for exploratory geotechnical borings before receiving development approval.

The Fayetteville School Board last year approved the $2.8 million purchase of 16.7 acres at 2200 N. Marks Mill Lane to serve as a new Ramay Junior High site. The board also approved a $1.25 million easement purchase for three acres that will allow a direct connection with College Avenue.
