CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power both proposed a rate increase to the Public Service Commission of West Virginia.

At public hearings on the proposal, customers across the state said they’re against the idea.

“How is it feasible that you are, they’re proposing another rate increase when we can’t even afford the rate now? It’s disgusting,” Jacey Allen, an AEP customer, said

The power company said it needs more than $70 million additional dollars every year to pay for the cost of fuel.

PSC Chair Charlotte Lane said staff will first review the proposal.

Lane said, “There’s been inflation, there are lots of environmental requirements on our coal-fired plants, and so all of that we take into consideration.”
