COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — Collin County’s jail is facing mounting pressure as population growth continues to outpace resources. Once considered innovative for its pod-style design, the jail, according to the sheriff, is understaffed and nearly overcrowded—straining both personnel and budget.
“We have a lot of extra posts that we don't have permanent positions for,” Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner said.
With the jail running at 90% capacity — well above the National Institute of Corrections recommended standard of 80% —staffing and safety concerns are growing louder.
