ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Advocates and families are asking for more to be done to ensure cyclists in Albuquerque are safe while riding.

"Three weeks ago tomorrow, our daughter passed away just right here," said Alek Herrick.

Herrick stood in front of his stepdaughter's memorial on Carlisle Blvd near Delamar. On July 22, Kayla Vanlandingham was hit and killed while biking. Vanlandingham was using the bike crossing, two cars stopped, one didn't.

"It gives bikers an illusion of safety when there is none," Herrick said.

On Monday, Herrick was on his way home when he noticed an accident at the same crossing. Witness told him bicyclists were trying to cross, one car stopped. However, behind them, another car didn't, causing a ladder to go through the back of the car.
