GREENVILLE, S.C. —

Greenville City leaders offered new information about homelessness initiatives on Monday.

City councilman John DeWorken gave a brief update during Monday's city council meeting on a proposed ordinance that would criminalize public sleeping and camping within the city.

The ordinance would bar people from sleeping, making accommodations to sleep or leaving personal items unattended for more than two hours, within city limits, in areas including city parking garages, parks, public plazas and areas under bridges.

Last month, council voted to delay any action on the proposal.

"The updates just really been we've talked to a lot of folks and we're going to continue doing that. Why? Because we're talking about human beings. It's a complex issue. It's a complicated issue.
