A memory card from a secret camera hidden in bushes could provide new, damning evidence against a crew of South American immigrants blamed for stealing $5 million worth of jewelry, cash and valuable items during burglaries in Michigan and beyond.
The memory card was recovered this summer by chance by a neighbor across the street from a victim targeted by members of a crew that is awaiting trial in federal court in Grand Rapids.
The crew preyed on primarily Middle Eastern and Asian business owners in Metro Detroit, west Michigan and at least eight states who were stalked and surveilled by sophisticated thieves, according to a search warrant affidavit and federal court records obtained by The Detroit News.
