The Miles Golden Bears are focused.

"Dogs, I would say that. I mean, every day at practice we come out there, we compete, you know, we physical every day," Edward Osley, a running back, said.

This level of hard work is a sign of this team buying into the culture that first-year head coach Chris Goode aims to establish.

"Determination and grit, and that's my thing with them, is always doing what we ask you to do on the field. That's one of the things I think some of the guys are buying into right now, but you know, it's going to be a process with some of it," Goode said.

It's a process because a lot of this team is new. Miles lost 20 of its 22 starters from a season ago.

"We're trying to figure them out, they're trying to figure us out," Goode said.
